Donizetti Opera Festival, Lisette Oropesa & Andrew Staples Among Premio Abbiati Winners

The prestigious Premio Abbiati has announced its 2023 winners. 

The awards, which are decided by critics, saw  “La favorite” from the Donizetti Opera Festival win Best Production. Riccardo Frizza conducted and Valentina Carrasco directed.

The Special award went to “Le Sonate per pianoforte di Salvatore Sciarrino alla Fabbrica del Vapore,” while the Premio “Roberto Masotti” went to Festival Aperto di Reggio Emilia.

The Best Conductor award was awarded to Gianluca Capuano for “Alcina” at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

The Novità per l’Italia went to John Zorn’s “Jumalattaret,” while the Best Director went to Barrie Kosky for his production of Eugene Onegin” at teh Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli and Die Dreigroschenoper Romaeuropa Festival.

The award for costumes and sets was given to Leila Fteita for “Le joueur” at the Festival della Valle d’Itria di Martina Franca.

Alexander Gadjiev won the soloist award and La fonte musica was given the Best Ensemble prize.

Lisette Oropesa and Andrew Staples were recognized as Best Singers. Meanwhile, the Premio “Piero Farulli” was awarded to Quartetto Goldberg. Finally the Premio “Filippo Siebaneck” was presented to “Le proposte di opera accessibile” of Orchestra Senzaspine.

The award ceremony will be in Bergamo on June 10, 2023.
