Donizetti Opera Festival Announces Cast Change for ‘Belisario’

By Francisco Salazar

Placido Domingo has canceled his participation at the Donizetti Opera Festival.

The festival announced that due to health concerns, Domingo is unable to travel to Italy for the upcoming concert performances of “Belisario.” However, he is now scheduled to appear in an upcoming edition.

As a result, Roberto Frontali will sing the title role.

Frontali is a well-known baritone who has performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Arena di Verona, Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Opera di Roma and Rossini Opera Festival. He is also known for his Verdi interpretations as well as his forays into verismo and bel canto.

Frontali joins a cast that includes Carmela Remigio, who replaces Davinia Rodriguez, Annalisa Stroppa, and Celso Albelo. Riccardo Frizza conducts the concert performances, which are set for Nov. 21, 2020. Donizetti Web TV will stream both performances.
