Dominque Meyer Named Executive Director of Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne
By Francisco SalazarDominique Meyer has been appointed executive director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, effective July 15, 2024.
The orchestra’s board of trustees announced the news on July 12.
However, the Teatro alla Scala, where Meyer continues as Superintendent released a statement noting that Meyer will continue with the house until the end of his term on Feb. 28, 2025.
Meyer had been offered to stay in his current position at Italy’s famed opera house until August of next year but refused.
Meyer was forced to leave his position as superintendent due to new rules introduced last year by Italy’s far-right government led by Giorgia Meloni, which set an age limit of 70 for opera directors. Fortunato Ortombina will succeed Meyer at the Teatro alla Scala and will begin as superintendent designate beginning Sept. 1, 2024, and then will take office as superintendent in March.
