Dmytro Popov is set to sing performances of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

The company announced that Popov will take over the Sept. 19 and 23 performances in the role of Gustav which Piotr Beczala was originally scheduled to sing.

Popov sang the opening night on Sept. 15 and is next scheduled to perform at the Opéra de Paris in a revival of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.” He also returns to the Metropolitan Opera, Dutch National Opera and Opernhaus Zurich this season.

Popov will join a cast that includes Irina Churilova as Amelia, Thomas Lehman as Anckarström, Meechot Marrero as Oscar, and Judit Kutasi as Ulrica. Ivan Repusic conducts the production.

Beczala is set to return to the stage for Verdi’s “La Traviata” on Sept. 27 at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
