Dmitry Korchak & Magdalena Kožená Headline New CD/DVD Releases – Sept. 30

This week will see two baroque pieces and two modern works get releases. With one exception, this week’s selections are unique and rare works that span centuries of musical traditions.

Orphée et Eurydice

The Lyric Opera of Chicago’s famed production of Gluck’s masterpiece comes to DVD with a cast that includes Dmitry Korchak, Andriana Chuchman, and Lauren Snouffer.

Harry Bicket conducts the production by John Neumeier which features the Joffrey Ballet. C Major releases the new DVD.

Profanum

IGM releases the new album by soprano Rachel Hippert. The new album is set to feature early sacred songs by Colombian composer Julian De La Chica. The album also features notes by Zachary James.  Here is more information about the works and the new album.

Hippolyte et Aricie

Jean-Philippe Rameau’s work gets a new release with a production from the Berlin State Opera. Euroarts releases the work, which stars  Anna Prohaska, Elsa Dreisig and Magdalena Kožená and is conducted by Sir. Simon Rattle. The new production from 2018 is directed by Aletta Collins. 

Fire in My Mouth

Grammy-winning new-music choir, The Crossing, is featured on the New York Philharmonic’s new recording of its world premiere performance of Julia Wolfe’s “Fire in my mouth.” The new recording is set to be released on Decca Gold, Universal Music Group’s newly established U.S. classical music label and features 36 women of The Crossing.

The piece made its world premiere with the New York Philharmonic in January 2019 at David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. Jaap Van Zweden conducts this new recording.
