Divaria Productions and Espacio de Culturas will present “Mrs. Rossini Meets Madame Malibran” on Oct. 7 at NYU’s Casa de la Cultura Juan Carlos I, Espacio de Culturas.

The program traces the lives of two Spanish born singers and composers, Isabella Colbran, wife and muse of composer Rossini, and Maria Malibran, an early bel canto diva and daughter of tenor Manuel Garcia and sister of Pauline Viardot. The concert features excerpts from roles the two women made famous, alongside letters and music composed by all three historical figures. Mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna will portray Maria Malibran, and soprano Ashley Galvani Bell will portray Isabella Colbran, with Alla Milchtein at the piano.

The project previously appeared as a documentary film series at the Bay Street Theatre in New York and at the Semana Lucrecia Arana in La Rioja, Spain, and has since screened at more than eight film festivals, earning honors including Best Documentary Short at the Austin International Art Festival and Best Original Concept at the Hispanic International Film Festival.

This performance, which commences at 6:30 p.m., marks the project’s live premiere.
