Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) will kick off its 2024 season with a grand celebration in honor of Welsh composer Sir Karl Jenkins’ 80th birthday.

Famously known as “The Man with Glasses and Mullet in Coronation,” Jenkins will be honored on Jan. 15, 2024, at the Perelman Stage in Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium. The concert will feature a selection of works from Songs of Sanctuary, Requiem, and Stabat Mater, including “And the Mother Did Weep,” “Virgo Virginum,” “Ave Verum,” and “Paradisi Gloria.” Another highlight will be the performance of “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.”

Jenkins holds the distinguished title of DCINY’s longest-serving original composer-in-residence, and this upcoming performance will mark his impressive 17th collaboration with the company.

“We are proud to be kicking off next year’s season celebrating his 80th year,” said DCINY Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Jonathan Griffith in an official press statement. “Jenkins is one of the most frequently performed composers in the world, and this concert will be his 17th performance with us. I am particularly honored to conduct his work for this event.”

Griffith co-founded DCINY with General Director Iris Derke.
