The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cast change for its upcoming performance of “Die Zauberflöte.”
The company announced that Dimitry Ivashchenko will sing Sarastro in the performance on June 14, replacing Tilmann Rönnebeck, who is ill. He also sings the final performance of the season on July 6, 2019.
Ivashchenko is an acclaimed bass who has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Opera de Paris, Teatro Real, and Opera National de Bordeaux among others.
His repertoire includes works from Borodin, Verdi, Mozart, Wagner, Beethoven, Bellini and Mussorgsky. Upcoming engagements include The Ring Cycle at the Opera de Paris and Rusalka at the Dutch National Opera.
The Russian bass joins a cast that includes Antonina Vesenina, Mirella Hagen, Joseph Dennis, and Sebastian Wartig. Christoph Gedschold conducts the production by Achim Freyer.
