Anja Harteros has canceled the final performance of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” at the Wiener Staatsoper on Sept. 12, 2019.

The company announced that due to illness Harteros would not be able to perform. As a result, Dinara Alieva will sing the role of Elisabetta.

Alieva is a well-known soprano who has performed with the Bolshoi Theatre, Oper Frankfurt, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Latvian National Opera, and Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others. Her repertoire includes Elisabertta in “Don Carlo,” Nedda in “Pagliacci,” Magda in “La Rondine,” Violetta in “La Traviata” and Leonora in “Il Trovatore.”

She is set to return to the Wiener Staatsoper in May for Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni.”

Alieva will join a cast that includes Fabio Sartori, René Pape, Simon Keenlyside, Elena Zhidkova, and Dmitry Ulyanov. Jonathan Darlington conducts the performance, which will be livestreamed.
