Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar Announces New Opera Director

The Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar has announced that Andrea Moses will take over the helm as the new Opera Director.

Moses will succeed Hans-Georg Wegner, who is moving to the Mecklenburgische Staatstheater in Schwerin as the new General Director. Moses has already established close connections with the opera house in Weimar and the ensemble in several productions.

At the DNT Weimar, Moses has already staged Puccini’s “Turandot,” Mussorgsky’s “Chowanschtschina,” Weber’s ” Der Freischütz,” and the world premiere of the opera “The Circle” by Ludger Vollmer.

Andrea Moses was born in Dresden. She has studied acting and directing at the “Ernst Busch” University in Berlin and also in Moscow. Between 2009-11 she was a Chief Director for opera and drama at the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau. From 2011-14, Moses was a leading director at the Staatsoper Stuttgart in the team of Jossi Wieler.

In 2018 and 2019, Andrea Moses has staged the opera “Die Weiden” by Johannes Maria Staud at the Wiener Staatsoper. Moses has also staged Wagner’s “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” at the Staatsoper Berlin in April 2019.

Andrea Moses will begin her new job in Weimar starting with the 2021-22 season.
