Deutsches Nationaltheater & Staatskapelle Weimar Announces 2021-22 Season Featuring Iris Vermillion & Andreas Fischer

The Deutsches Nationaltheater & Staatskapelle Weimar has announced its 2021-22 season. For the purpose of this article we will only focus on vocal works.

Opera

Stewart Copeland and Jonathan Moore’s opera “Electric Saint” opens the season with Gregor Bühl conducting a production by Jonathan Moore.

Premiere Date: Sept. 5, 2021

Johann Strauss‘ “Die Fledermaus” will be directed by Michael Dissmeier and conducted by Dirk Sobe.

Premiere Date: Oct. 17, 2021

Verdi‘s “Aida” returns to the stage with Dominik Beykirch conducting a production by Andrea Moses.

Premiere Date: Oct. 30, 2021

Gerd Amelung conducts Nina Gühlstorff’s production of Monteverdi‘s “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria.

Premiere Date: Nov. 13, 2021

The opera house will showcase Bizet‘s operatic masterwork “Carmen.” Dominik Beykirch conducts the production by Jan Neumann.

Premiere Date: Nov. 20, 2021

Detlev Glanert’s opera “Caligula” gets a new production by Dirk Schmeding. Andreas Wolf conducts.

Premiere Date: Feb. 12, 2022

Dominik Beykirch conducts “Passion :Spiel.”

Performance Dates: March 10 – 19, 2022

Offenbach‘s operetta “La princesse de Trébizonde” will be directed by Anne-Sophie Weber. Andreas Wolf will conduct.

Premiere Date: May 7, 2022

Dominik Beykirch conducts Hasko Weber’s production of Anton Schweitzer’s singspiel “Aurora.”

Premiere Date: June 4, 2022

Concerts

Performance Date: Sept. 29, 2021

Der Ring an 1 Abend spotlights Catalina Bertucci, Davia Bouley, Noel Bouley, Bernadett Fodor, Cornel Frey, Thomas Mohr, Brit-Tone Müllertz, Christina Sidak, Zelotes Edmund Toliver, Miina-Liisa Värelä, and Bjørn Waag. Heiko Matthias Förster conducts.

Performance Date: Dec. 17, 2021

Soprano Emma Moore, alto Iris Vermillion, and tenor Andreas Post perform Gustav Mahler‘s “Das Klagende Lied” alongside conductor Dominik Beykirch.

Performance dates: March 20 – 21, 2022

Kirill Karabits conducts the performance of Franz Liszt’s “Cantate zur Säcular-Feier Beethovens” with the Opernchor des DNT Weimar, Landesjugendchor Thüringen, and soloists yet to be announced.
