The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that it will not be able to present Verdi’s “Aida” as a fully staged production by Benedikt von Peter due to the pandemic.

As a result, the opera house has canceled the second performance in the run on Jan. 24, 2022, and will present the opera on Jan. 22 & 29, and Feb. 4, 2022 as a concert.

The opera is set to star Anna Smirnova as Amneris, Patrick Guetti as Il Re, Stefano La Colla in the role of Radames, Markus Brück as Amonasro, and Guanqun Yu in the title role. The cast also includes Byung Gil Kim, Andrei Danilov, and Valeriia Savinskaia. Leonardo Sini and Giampaolo Bisanti conduct.

The Deutsche Oper Berlin is currently presenting the third cycle of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen,” with performances between Jan. 4 – 9, 2022.
