Deutsche Oper Berlin Announces Multiple Cast Changes For ‘Der Ring des Nibelungen’

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced multiple cast changes for Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen.”

For the performances of “Die Walküre” on Oct. 29, Nov. 10 & 17, 2021, Iain Paterson will replace John Lundgren in the role of Wotan. Paterson joins a cast that includes Brandon Jovanovich as Siegmund, Elisabeth Teige as Sieglinde, Tobias Kehrer as Hunding, Nina Stemme as Brünnhilde, and Annika Schlicht in the role of Fricka.

For the performances of “Götterdämmerung” on Oct. 31, Nov. 14 & 21, 2021, and Jan. 9, 2022, Clay Hilley will take over the role of Siegfried from Simon O’Neill, while Albert Pesendorfer replaces Gidon Saks in the role of Hagen. For the performance on Oct. 31, 2021, Jürgen Linn replaces Jordan Shanahan in the role of Alberich. The rest of the cast includes Thomas Lehman as Gunther, Aile Asszonyi as Gutrune, Nina Stemme as Brünnhilde, and Okka von der Damerau in the role of Waltraute.
