The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced changes to its 2020-21 season.

Instead of presenting Verdi’s “Nabucco” in August, the company will present a Verdi gala with Amartuvshin Enkhbat, Patrick Cook, Marko Mimica, Saioa Hernandez, and Irene Roberts. Performances are set for Sept. 12 and 13, 2020.

On Sept. 19 and 20 Verdi’s “Aida” will be performed in a “Best of” Concert with Tobias Kehrer, Judit Kutasi, Elena Stikhina, Jorge de León, Albert Pesendorfer, and Markus Brück.

Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda” will also be reduced to a “Best of Concert” with original cast members Irina Churilova, Beth Taylor, Marko Mimica, Judit Kutasi, Joseph Calleja, and Roman Burdenko performing arias, duets, and ensembles from the opera. Performances are scheduled for Sept. 25  and 26.

Each performance will be 90 minutes.

The “7 Deaths of Maria Callas” has also been canceled. The project was set to open on August 19 and star Marina Abramovic, Nadezhda Karyazina, Whitney Morrison, Leah Hawkins, Adela Zaharia, Selene Zanetti, Gabriella Reyes, and Mané Galoyan.
