The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced cast changes for its production of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” on Jan. 5, 2023.

The company said that  Kangyoon Shine Lee will be singing the part of Almaviva in place of Matthew Newlin while Dean Murphy will take over the role of Figaro in place of Philipp Jekal.

Lee has performed at the Komische Oper and Deutsche Oper Berlin. He is well-known for his Bel Canto repertoire and his interpretations of Mozart. Meanwhile, Murphy has performed at the Opéra National de Lorraine, Opéra de Dijon, Oper Vlaanderen, and Müpa Budapest, among others.

Both singers join a cast that includes Misha Kiria, Arianna Manganello, Philipp Jekal, and Patrick Guetti. Yi-Chen Lin conducts.
