The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced new plans for its big premieres during the incoming 2020-21 season.

In an official statement, Berlin’s largest opera house said that productions of Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” and Beethoven’s “Fidelio” had been postponed until the 2022-23 season, due to the far-reaching consequences of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The premiere of Wagner’s “Das Rheingold” that was planned for June 12, 2020, is now slated for June 12, 2021.

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has informed the public that it will publish a monthly schedule from now on, which is also related to the COVID-19 circumstances. As soon as a normal performance and rehearsal schedule is foreseeable, the performances of the 2020-21 season will be scheduled, per the official statement.
