The Deutsche Oper am Rhein has delayed the opening of “Orpheus in der Unterwelt.”

The company noted that “as a result of further corona infections in the ensemble, the premiere of Jacques Offenbach’s operetta ‘Orpheus in der Unterwelt’ will now take place on Feb. 26.”

This marks the second delay for the production as it was originally slated to open on Feb. 19 but was delayed to Feb. 23 due to COVID-19 infections.

“Orpheus in der Unterwelt” is still set to star Susan Maclean, Max Hopp, Elena Sancho Pereg, Andrés Sulbarán, Florian Simson, Romana Noack, Heidi Elisabeth Meier, Peter Bording, Katarzyna Kuncio, and Torben Jürgens. The production by Barrie Kosky is conducted by Marie Jacquot.

The operetta will be performed through March 20, 2022.
