
Deutsche Oper Am Rhein Cancels Several Performances Due to Structural Issues
By Francisco SalazarThe Deutsche Oper am Rhein has canceled the entire run of “Madama Butterfly.”
The company said that “The entire run of ‘Madama Butterfly’ at the Deutsche Oper Am Rhein has been canceled due to structural issues discovered in the stage tower of the Opernhaus Düsseldorf, which means the venue cannot currently be used for rehearsals and performances.”
The production was set to open on Sept. 12 and run through Oct. Oct. 15, 2026. Katharina Müllner was set to conduct with a cast that included Olesya Golovneva and Liana Aleksanyan, Maria Polańska, Maria Kataeva, Ovidiu Purcel, Eduardo Aladrén, Richard Šveda, and Alexey Zelenkov.
The company also announced it was canceling performances of “La Traviata,” the opening of its new production of “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.” The next performance scheduled at the Opernhaus Düsseldorf will be held on Oct. 17.
