By Logan Martell

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that General Music Director Donald Runnicles’ contract has been extended through 2027. Sir Runnicles, recently knighted in October, has served with Deutsche Oper since 2009, with his former contract being set to expire in 2022 after being renewed again in 2016.

The company also announced the extension of contracts for Commercial Director Thomas Fehrle and Artistic Director Dietmar Schwarz, for five years and three years, respectively.

“The top management Schwarz / Runnicles / Fehrle has significantly shaped and promoted the artistic and economic development of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in recent years,” writes Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Klaus Lederer. I am pleased that the Board of Trustees has approved the contract extensions and that the successful work of the management trio can thus be continued. “
