Des Moines Metro Opera Releases Virtual Opera Curriculum Nationwide

Des Moines Metro Opera has unveiled that its own Virtual Opera Curriculum to teachers, parents, and schools around the country free of charge.

The program, an online music education series, teaches students the basics of opera and culminates with a professional, filmed performance of the children’s opera “Rusalka: The Little Mermaid,” which is adapted from Dvorak’s iconic “Rusalka.”

“Rusalka: The Little Mermaid” stars Cadie J. Bryan, Gabrielle Clutter, Quinn Middleman, Lindsey von Holten, Andrew Turner, and pianist and music director Kyle Naig. The production features scenic design by Robert Sunderman, costume, wig, and makeup design by Catherine Mason, and was directed by Joshua Borths.

“I cannot wait for students, teachers, and families across Iowa and beyond to experience our reimagined OPERA Iowa programming,” said Michael Egel, General & Artistic Director of Des Moines Metro Opera in a press release. “Now through an entirely digital medium, our professional artists will connect with students of all ages all across the country, offering professional theatrical experiences and music education opportunities of the highest quality.”

The curriculum series will be available through July 2, 2021.
