Derrell Acon, Shelley Washington, James Darrah Headline Long Beach Opera’s 2022 Season

Long Beach Opera in California, has announced its 2022 season which will include four operas and is set to begin in March 2022.

First up will be Stockhausen’s “Stimmung.” The new production will be directed by Alexander Gedeon and conducted by Jenny Wong.

Performance Dates: March 19 – 27, 2022

Next up will be a video production and live production entitled “Quando (Project ‘0’)” which will feature music by Verdi and Gluck. Derrell Acon will create and produce the work, which will be presented in collaboration with Heartbeat Opera.

Performance Dates: April 23 & 24, 2022

The company will word premiere Händel’s “Giustino” with new music by Shelley Washington. James Darrah directs while Christopher Roundtree conducts. The opera stars Anna Schubert , Orson Van Gay, Luke Elmer, Dante Mireles, Marlaina Owens, Sharon Chohi Kim, Amanda Lynn Bottoms, and Douglas Williams.

Performance Dates: May 21 – 28, 2022

The season will come to a close with a new production of “The Central Park Five.” Desean Terry directs.

Performance Dates: June 18 – 25, 2022
