Denyce Graves, Kenneth Kellogg & Vanessa Goikoetxea Lead Seattle Opera’s 2023-24 Season

The Seattle Opera has announced the 2023-24 season featuring four productions.

Productions

Wagner’s Das Rheingold is set to open the season with Greer Grimsley as Wotan, Frederick Ballentine, Michael Mayes, and the Seattle Opera debut of internationally celebrated mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves. The cast is rounded by Martin Bakari, Melody Wilson, Kenneth Kellogg, Peixin Chen, and Sarah Larsen.

Performance Dates: August 12–20, 2023

Handel’s “Alcina” is set to star soprano Vanessa Goikoetxea and mezzo-soprano Ginger Costa-Jackson. Randall Scotting and Shaleen Joynt also star. It will be the first time Alcina will be performed at the Seattle Opera. Christine Brandes conducts the production by Tim Albery.

Performance Dates: Oct. 14–28, 2023

Anthony Davis and Thulani Davis’ “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X” is set to star Kenneth Kellogg and Joshua Stewart in a coproduction with Detroit Opera, Opera Omaha, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and The Metropolitan Opera. Leah Hawkins also stars with Kazen Abdullah conducting and Robert O’Hara directing.

Performance Dates: Feb. 24–March 9, 2024

Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” will be staged by Lindy Hume and conducted by Valentina Peleggi.

Performance Dates: May 4-18, 2024

Special Concerts

The Holiday Chorus Concert will be performed at the Tagney Jones Hall at the Opera Center.

Performance Dates: Dec. 8–10, 2023

The 60th Anniversary Concert and Gala will be performed. The event will feature Ginger Costa-Jackson, Greer Grimsley, Mary Elizabeth Williams, Sarah Coburn, John Moore, Duke Kim, Amitai Pati, Adam Lau, and Michael J. Hawk. Kazem Abdullah conducts the showcase, which features music from “Carmen,” “Die Walküre,” “Porgy and Bess,” “Nabucco,” and “Eugene Onegin,” among others.
