Den Norske Opera & Ballett Announces 2026-27 Season Featuring Barbara Hannigan, Gerald Finley, Karen Cargill, Victoria Randem & Ruzan Mantashyan

The Den Norske Opera & Ballett has announced its 2026-27 season.

Opera

Sing Opera Young will feature the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra.

Performance Dates: August 15, 2026


Elisabeth Teige star in Strauss’ “Elektra” with Karen Cargill, Marita Sølberg, Magnus Staveland, and Yngve Søberg. Edward Gardner conducts the production by Ole Anders Tandberg.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12-Oct. 4, 2026


Thomas Atkins, Clara Thomsen, Aleksander Nohr, Astrid Nordstad, Jens-Erik Aasbø, Eirik Grøtvedt, Cecilia Zhang, and Changhui Tan star in Stravinsky’s “The Rake’s Progress.” Vidar Magnussen directs and Kirill Karabits conducts.

Performance Dates: Sept. 24-Oct. 8, 2026


“My First Opera,” a family experience, will take the stage.

Performance Date: Oct. 30, 2026


The opera company will present “Opera Time for Everyone.”

Performance Date: Oct. 31, 2026


Two casts will perform Puccini’s “La Bohème.” Victoria Randem and Ruzan Mantashyan lead the production as Mimi alongside Frøy Hovland Holtbakk and Katarina Zorec as Musetta, Andrei Danilov and Carlos Cardoso as Rodolfo, and Audun Iversen and Luthando Qave as Marcello. Jordan de Souza and Peter Szilvay conduct the production by R. B. Schlather.

Performance Dates: Nov. 20-Dec. 16, 2026


Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld” will star Kristoffer Olsen, Beate Mordal, Magnus Ingemund Kjelstad, Aleksander Nohr, Thale Bergsaune, Ørjan Bruskeland Hinna, and Johannes Nikolai Aas. Johannes Gustavsson conducts the production by Vidar Magnussen.

Performance Dates: Nov. 20-Dec. 16, 2026


The company will present “You and me and Life.”

Performance Dates: Jan. 7-9, 2027


Yngve Søberg, Aleksander Nohr, Eirik Grøtvedt, Magnus Staveland, Johannes Weisser, Ya-Chung Huang, Nicolai Elsberg, Jens-Erik Aasbø, Astrid Nordstad, Margrethe Fredheim, Anna Kissjudit, Erin O’Rourke, Sandra Bendrik, and Frida Lund-Larsen star in Wagner’s “Das Rheingold.” Edward Gardner conducts the production by Tatjana Gürbaca.

Performance Dates: Jan. 22-Feb. 11, 2027


Knut Vaage and Bjørn Sortland’s “The Night Folk” will be conducted by Ingar Bergby and directed by Erik Ulfsby. The cast will include Maia Reppe, Eldrid Gorset, Håvard Stensvold, Ivi Karnezi, Marie-Elise Herredsvela, and Olga Sliepnova.

Performance Dates: Jan. 23-30, 2027


Rodrigo Garull stars in Verdi’s “Otello” with Marita Sølberg and Audun Iversen. Giulio Cilona and Paolo Arrivabeni conduct and Georg Zlabinger directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 13-March 12, 2027


Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” will be directed by Joseph W. Alford and conducted by Gunvald Ottesen. The cast includes Katarina Zorec, Cecilia Zhang, David Höfel, Ian Marcus Bjørsvik, Eirin Rognerud, and Frederic Jost.

Performance Dates: Feb. 19-26, 2027


The season concludes with Verdi’s Requiem, featuring Marita Sølberg, Astrid Nordstad, Eirik Grøtvedt, and Yngve Søberg.

Gerald Finley will perform in concert.

Barbara Hannigan sings and performs the leading role in Francis Poulenc’s celebrated one-act opera “La Voix Humaine.”
