Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble just announced its 2017 Opera Festival.  Starting on August 12, 2017 and running until August 27, the schedule features 14 full performances, covering ten works, and two fully-staged productions.

The 15th annual opera festival opens with two Operatic rarities, Francesco Cavalli’s “La Calisto” andLeos Janacek’s “Prihody Iisky Bystrousky (The Cunning Little Vixen).” The former is about two Greek myths and will be conducted by Charles Weaver. The latter, which is about the daily struggle for woodland animals to survive, is set to be conducted by David Stech.

The main theme throughout the festival revolves around the parallels between the human and animal kingdoms. Each performance is in downtown Manhattan at the La Mama Theater.

For audiences new to opera, “UNTAMED” features music from several different works including “Carmen,” “Rusalka,” “Pelleas et Melisande,” and more.  The productions will debut on August 18, 2018, and August 22.

Eldred Marshall and Chris Fecteau will the performance while Gerardo Flores and Emma Clarkson are the stage directors for the show. Each of the productions will feature piano accompaniment.

The festival will conclude with “Wild Things,” a recital about the animal kingdom and other wild creatures performed by ensemble members and cover artists.
