Decca Classics has announced that it is signing mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina and will release her first album “Aigul” on July 26, 2024.

The album will feature arias from a number of major operas, including “Carmen,” Akhmetshina’s signature role and one that she has performed around the world. The mezzo opened a new production of the work at the Met Opera, drawing strong reviews. Of her work, OperaWire noted, “It was a strong turn from a very solid and maturing artist and at 27, the Met general manager is already heralding Akhmetshina as the company’s next big star. We’ll see what’s next in store for her in coming years.”

She is also a recent winner of the “Best Female Singer” award from the 2023 International Opera Awards.

“Aigul’s story is an extraordinary reminder of the transformative power of music,” said Decca Co-President Tom Lewis in an official press statement. “She set out from a tiny village with nothing but her talent and a formidable work ethic. And, in a very short time, that talent has taken her to the very, very top of her profession. She has a voice that will captivate the world!”
