Decameron Opera Coalition Releases Video Songbook ‘DOC the Halls’

The Decameron Opera Coalition has released its digital video songbook “DOC the Halls” for the holiday season.

“DOC the Halls” includes eight holiday-themed world premiere songs performed by a “comic quartet of carolers” featuring DOC co-creators Peter Hilliard and Matt Boresi. The video songbook will explore “light amidst the darkness.”

The commissioned works by the coalition members include Bare Opera’s setting of  Langston Hughes’ “Christmas Eve: Nearing Midnight in New York” by composer Thomas Cabaniss, UrbanAria’s “Holiday Ex-Lover” starring Britt Olsen-Ecker and Melissa Wimbish, Lyric Opera of the North’s “Little Spirit Moon at Solstice” by Daniel Nass and librettist Linda LeGarde Grover, “Rededication” by composer Nancy Galbraith and librettist Sara Stock Mayo teamed with Resonance Works, Milwaukee Opera Theatre’s “The Meaning of Christmas” by Adam Qutaishat, Opera in the Heights and composer Alejandro Basulto and librettist Bruno Rios’ “Carta de Inés,” “Come Home” by composer Matthew Recio and librettist Jenna Lanzaro and Chicago Fringe Opera, and Fargo-Moorhead Opera’s “A Perfect Gift” by Michael Ching and Reg Huston.

The hour-long cycle begins streaming on Dec. 2 on AÏRIS video streaming platform. Ticket holders will have access to the video songbook for one year. An audio album is also available on all major audio streaming services.

Tickets are available on AÏRIS as are previous productions such as “Tales from a Safe Distance” and “HEROES.”
