Davóne Tines, Ronnita Miller, Whitney Morrison Headline Detroit Opera’s ‘X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X’

Detroit Opera is set to present “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X” starting on May 14, 2022.

The opera by Anthony Davis will be directed by Robert O’Hara and conducted by Kazem Abdullah.

Taking on the title role of Malcolm X will be Davóne Tines. As Elijah-Street, audiences will see Victor Ryan Robertson. Meanwhile, Whitney Morrison will play both Louise and Betty while Ronnita Miller will interpret Ella. Rounding out the cast will be Joshua Conyers as Reginald.

This same cast is set to reprise their roles with Boston Modern Orchestra Project later this spring.

The opera explores how Malcolm Little eventually became the legendary and iconic Malcolm X.

The production will feature additional performances on May 19 and 22, 2022.
