Davóne Tines, Brooklyn Youth Chorus & BAM to Present ‘And Sing!’ & ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice’ Gala

Brooklyn Youth Chorus and the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) are joining forces to present “And Sing!” on May 6, 2024.

The one-night-only conversational concert that aims to celebrate the music of the Black Diaspora, will feature performances by Davóne Tines, who is currently Artist-in-Residence at BAM. This performance will be interactive with a portion dedicated to musical commentary and another to performance.

“The goal of the program is to collapse the distance between the audience, artists, and the art,” Tines said of the intention for “And Sing!”

Following Tines’ performance at 7 p.m., the Brooklyn Youth Chorus will showcase its year-end gala “Lift Ev’ry Voice” at 8:30 p.m. During this latter event, Tines will be honored during a dinner and award presentation.

“We are so thrilled to integrate these exciting performers, composers, artists, and new compositions into our programming,” said Megan Lemley, Brooklyn Youth Chorus Executive Director, in an official press statement. “Our ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice…AND SING!’ gala and concert is just the first demonstration of how the Diamonstein-Spielvogel Youth and Contemporary Music Initiative provides fantastic opportunities for and enriches the experience of our young singers, in the rehearsal room and on stage. It has already had a transformational effect on both our organization and on each chorister who walks through our doors.”

“And Sing!” will be presented at BAM Strong at 651 Fulton Street in Brooklyn while “Lift Ev’ry Voice” will take place at BRIC at 647 Fulton Street in Brooklyn.
