Davinia Rodriguez has canceled her upcoming performances of Bellini’s “Il Pirata.”

The Teatro Real de Madrid announced that due to illness the Spanish soprano would not be able to sing her two scheduled performances for Dec. 16 and 18, 2019. As a result, Maria Pia Piscitelli will replace Rodriguez.

Piscitelli is a well-known interpreter of the Bel Canto repertoire who has performed numerous roles by Donizetti, Verdi, and Mozart. The soprano recently appeared in the role of Leonora in “La Forza del Destino” at the Opernhaus Zürich and Santuzza in “Cavalleria Rusticana” at the Teatro Politeama Mario Foglietti.

Piscitelli is set to join a cast that includes Dmitry Korchak and Vladimir Stoyanov.

Rodriguez returns to the stage in February for “Roberto Devereux” at the LA Opera.

“Il Pirata” opens on Nov. 30 and will also stars Sonya Yoncheva and Javier Camarena.
