Davide Luciano To Make Teatro Alla Scala Debut

By Francisco Salazar

Massimo Cavalletti has canceled the Sept. 14 performance of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Teatro alla Scala.

The baritone announced via social media that due to a virus he will not be able to perform. He stated, “I have to inform you that this evening I’ll not be able to sing Belcore in ”L’Elisir d’Amore” at the Teatro alla Scala. Before the last show I caught a virus and while I was able to sing on Sept. 12, it’s now best to rest and recover. Toi toi toi to all my colleagues and the stage of La Scala! A presto!”

As a result, Davide Luciano will take over the role making his La Scala debut.

Luciano has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, Rossini Opera Festival, and Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others.

Luciano joins a cast that includes Renè Barbera, Ambrogio Maestri, and Rosa Feola. Michele Gamba conducts.

Cavalletti returns to the production on Sept. 21, 2019.
