David Portillo, Zanda Švēde & Kenneth Kellogg Lead Pittsburgh Opera’s 2021-22 Season

Benedum Center Productions
Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” will open the 2021-22 season with David Portillo as Tamino, Kathryn Bowden as Queen of the Night, Adelaide Boedecker as Pamina, Véronique Filloux as Papagena, and Tom McNichols as Sarastro. Antony Walker conducts.
Performance Dates: Nov. 6-14, 2021
Zanda Švēde sings the title role of Bizet’s “Carmen“ with Scott Quinn, Michael Todd Simpson, and Danielle Pastin. Antony Walker conducts.
Performance Dates: March 26-April 3, 2022
Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters Productions
Madeline Ehlinger and Véronique Filloux star in the Pittsburgh premiere of David Hertzberg’s “The Rose Elf.”
Performance Dates: Jan. 22-30, 2022
Antony Walker conducts the world premiere of Christopher Cerrone and Stephanie Fleischmann’s “In A Grove.” Mary Birnbaum directs the production Yazid Gray, Madeline Ehlinger, Aaron Crouch, and Chuanyuan Liu.
Performance Dates: Feb. 19-March 3, 2022
August Wilson African American Cultural Center Production
Jeanine Tesori and Tazewell Thompson’s “Blue” will star Kenneth Kellogg, Briana Elyse Hunter, and Aaron Crouch. Glenn Lewis conducts.
Performance Dates: April 23-May 1, 2022
