The Royal Opera House has announced the programming for the second concert of its “Live from Covent Garden” series, which will stream on June 20, 2020 at 7:30 pm BST on the ROH’s website.

This series, which will premiere on June 13, will mark the first live performance at the historic venue since it closed on March 17. The program will feature two works.

First will be a performance of Albert Schonberg’s reduction of Gustav Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde,” with tenor David Butt Philip, mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, and soloists of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.

Following this will be a performance of “Dance of the Blessed Spirits” from Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice,” featuring principal dancer Vadim Muntagirov doing a solo created in 1978 by Frederick Ashton for Anthony Dowell, former principal and director of The Royal Ballet.

As The Royal Opera House slowly opens its doors for a limited amount of artists, the company hopes to celebrate opera and ballet with audiences at home.
