David Bizic Replaces Lucas Meachem In Dortmund

By Francisco Salazar

David Bizic is set to replace Lucas Meachem in an upcoming performance of “The Pearl Fishers.”

Bizic will replace Meachem on the May 31 performance as Meachem.

Meachem was forced to cancel due to his wife’s pregnancy. He noted in a statement “I am deeply sorry to announce the cancellation of my upcoming performance of Pearl Fishers in Dortmund, Germany. My wife Irina and I are expecting our first child and with our approaching due date, I must stay by her side until our baby is born.

This is the first concert I’ve cancelled in over 10 years and I’m very sad to disappoint those who were planning to attend on my behalf. Best of luck to David Bizic who will take on the role of Zurga. Thank you all for understanding. I will be back in Germany very soon!”

Meachem is currently performing the work at the Bilbao Opera where he is replacing Mariusz Kwiecien.

Bizic will join a cast that includes Francesco Demuro and Ekaterina Bakanova, who is currently making her role debut as Leïla in a production at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Frederich is scheduled to conduct the concert performance.

The baritone is currently performing “Carmen” at the L’Opéra de Dijon alongside  Antoinette Dennefeld and Georgy Vasiliev. Bizic has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Opera de Bordeaux, Opera de Toulon, Opera de Monte Carlo, Royal Opera House, and LA Opera, among others.
