
Danielle De Niese to Headline English National Opera’s ‘Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny
By David SalazarThe English National Opera is set to present “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny” this February at the London Coliseum.
The new production will be conducted by André de Ridder in his debut as Music Director Designate. The production is by Jamie Manton, who previously directed Janáček’s “The Cunning Little Vixen” for ENO in 2022.
The work stars Danielle de Niese as Jenny Smith, with Rosie Aldridge appearing as Leokadja Begbick. The cast also includes Kenneth Kellogg as Trinity Moses and Mark Le Brocq as Fatty the Bookkeeper. Simon O’Neill makes his ENO and role debut as Jimmy MacIntyre. Additional cast members include Elgan Llŷr Thomas as Jack O’Brian, Alex Otterburn as Bank-Account Billy, David Shipley as Alaska Wolf Joe, and Zwakele Tshabalala as Toby Higgins. The Chorus of ENO and the Orchestra of ENO participate in the performances.
The opera will take the stage on Feb. 16 – 20, 2026, with all the shows commencing at 7:30 p.m.
