Danielle de Niese, Elizabeth DeShong & Jakub Józef Orliński To Be Featured At Glyndebourne’s 2019 Festival
By Francisco SalazarThe Glyndebourne Festival has announced its 2019 season featuring six productions, of which two are new. Here is a look at what the festival will present.
Productions
The season opens with Berlioz’s “La Damnation de Faust” conducted by Robin Ticciati and directed by Richard Jones in a new production. Allan Clayton, Julie Boulianne, and Christopher Purves headline the production.
Performance Dates: May 18–July 10 2019
Andrey Zhilikhovsky, Levy Sekgapane, Hyesang Park, and Alessandro Corbelli headline a revival of Annabel Arden’s 2016 production of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.” Rafael Payare conducts.
Performance Dates: May 19 –July 14, 2019
Fiona Shaw’s production of Massenet’s “Cendrillon” makes its Festival debut, conducted by John Wilson with Danielle de Niese in the title role. Kate Lindsey, Nina Minasyan, Agnes Zwierko, and Lionel Lhote also star.
Performance Dates: June 8– August 2, 2019
Sally Matthews, Alexander Roslavets, and Patricia Bardon star in Dvorak’s “Rusalka.” Robin Ticciati conducts Melly Still’s 2009 production.
Performance Dates: June 29–August 21, 2019
André Barbe and Renaud Doucet direct a new production of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” with Antonello Manacorda conducting. David Portillo, Sofia Fomina, Brindley Sherratt, Caroline Wettergreen, and Björn Bürger.
Performance Dates: July 18–August 24, 2019
Robert Carsen’s 2011 production of Handel’s “Rinaldo” is revived with Elizabeth DeShong in the title role. Maxim Emelyanychev conducts an excellent ensemble that includes Avery Amereau, Giulia Semenzato, Brandon Cedel, Jakub Józef Orliński, and Kristina Mkhitaryan.
Glyndebourne Tour 2019
The Glyndebourne Festival will tour with “L’Elisir d’Amore,” the first-ever production of “Rigoletto” for the festival and “Rinaldo.” Cast to be announced.
