Daniele Rustioni has been named Directeur Musical Emérite of Opéra de Lyon.

The company announced its decision via social media and said, “Last night, all the Lyon Opera teams were very emotional during the last performance of the opera ‘La Forza del Destino,’ conducted by Daniele Rustioni. An opportunity for Richard Brunel to pay tribute to him, celebrate his collaboration with musical formations and teams since 2017, and announce his appointment as Musical Director Emeritus of the Lyon Opera. We look forward to his recent appointment as chief guest conductor at The Metropolitan Opera in New York and we will also have the pleasure of having him back in Lyon in the coming seasons for exceptional concerts. A huge thank you, Maestro Daniele Rustioni.

Rustioni has served as Music Director in Lyon since 2017 and completed his tenure in 2025. Rustioni will next be the principal guest conductor of the Metropolitan Opera starting in the 2025-2026 season, with an initial contract of three seasons.
