On Oct. 2, the Festival Verdi is set to present the Messa da Requiem which will be dedicated to the composer Sylvano Bussotti, who recently died.

Daniele Gatti will conduct the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai and the coro del Teatro Regio di Parma.

Maria Agresta, Elīna Garanča, and John Relyea will make their Teatro Regio di Parma debuts alongside Antonio Poli. The performance will use David Rosen’s critical edition.

In a statement Daniele Gatti said, to perform the Verdi Requiem is a spiritual and moment. He added, “the feelings you get whether you believe or not, is a very personal and intimate moment that stays in one’s conscience.”

The Verdi Requiem is one of the many anticipated performances of the festival as it will also present concert performances of “Simon Boccanegra” and a gala featuring soprano Agresta.
