The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma Superintendant Carlo Fuortes has appointed Daniele Gatti as the new music director of the company.

The new appointment will see Gatti as Music Director for three years with his contract ending on Dec. 31, 2021. During his time with the company, Gatti will also lead three operas a season.

In a press release, Gatti noted that it was an honor to be appointed music director of the theater. He said, “Two years ago after the invitation by Carlo Fuortes I began a relationship with the musicians and the works in this company. We did two titles, ‘Tristan und Isolde’ and ‘La Damnation de Faust,’ which won the Premio Abbiati and we just opened the new season with a new ‘Rigoletto.’ I am therefore happy to be able to intensify my work here and unite with a theater that has recently distinguished itself for its high-quality work.”

Gatti made his Rome debut in the 2016-17 season conducting a highly acclaimed production of “Tristan und Isolde,” which was recorded live in HD. He then conducted “La Damnation de Faust” great acclaim and recently opened the 2018-19 season with a new production of “Rigoletto” starring Lisette Oropesa and Roberto Frontali.

The conductor begins his new position next season.
