Daniela Barcellona, Carlos Álvarez & Saioa Hernández Headline Teatro Regio Di Torino’s 2018-19 Season

The Teatro Regio di Torino has announced its 2018-19 season with a number of Italian operas and many rising stars.  Here is a look at what the season has to offer.

The season opens with Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” with two casts. Saioa Hernández and Karina Flores share the role of Leonora alongside Diego Torre and Arsen Soghomonyan who alternate the title role. Anna Maria Chiuri and Agostina Smimmero ·take on Azucena, while Massimo Cavalletti sings all performances of Luna.  Pinchas Steinberg conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 10-23, 2018

Lavinia Bini and Lucrezia Drei and alternate the role of Adina in Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore,” while Giorgio Berrugi and Francesco Marsiglia share the role of Nemorino. Roberto de Candia and Simón Orfila share the role of Belcore, while Julian Kim and Enrico Marruci take of Dulcamara. Michele Gamba conducts Fabio Sparvoli’s production.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13-24, 2018

Verdi’s “La Traviata” returns with two sopranos. Maria Grazia Schiavo and Natali Pavlova share the iconic role of Violetta, while Dmytro Popov and Giulio Pelligra alternate as Alfredo. Giovanni Meoni and Damiano Salerno round out the cast as Giorgio Germont. Henning Brockhaus directs the production with Donato Renzetti conducting.

Performance Dates: Dec. 14-23, 2018

Karah Son and Robeka Lokar alternate the role of Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.”  Vincenzo Costanzo and Massimiliano Pisapia sing Pinkerton, while Simone Del Savio and Fabio Maria Capitanucci share the role of Sharpless. Pierluigi Pizzi direct with Daniel Oren conducting.

Performance Dates: Jan 10- 20, 2019

Carlos Álvarez sings his signature role in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” with Amartuvshin Enkhbat sharing the role.  Ruth Iniesta is Gilda while  Stefan Pop and Iván Ayón Rivas are the Duke. Legendary actor John Turturro directs with Renato Palumbo conducting.

Performance Dates: Feb. 6-17, 2019

Paër’s Agnese gets a rare revival with Leo Muscato directing and Diego Fasolis conducting. A cast is set to be announced a later point.

Performance Dates: March 12-24, 2019

Ekaterina Sadovnikova sings the title role in Bellini’s “La Sonnambula” with Antonino Siragusa, Nicola Ulivieri, Riccardo Fassi, and Ashley Milanese. Mauro Avogadro directs the production with bel canto specialist Maurizio Benini.

Performance Dates: April 10-20, 2019

Carlo Lepore, Paolo Bordogna and Sara Blanch star in Rossini’s “L’Italiana in Algeri” in a production by Vittorio Borrelli. Alessandro De Marchi conducts.

Performance Dates: May 22-28, 2019

A new double bill opens in Torino with Casella’s “La Giara” and Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana.” Daniela Barcellona and Silvia Beltrami share the role of Santizza, while Carlo Ventre and Francesco Anile sing Turiddu. Marco Vratogna and Gëzim Myshketa share the role of Alfio, while Andrea Battistoni conducts. Gabriele Lavia directs the double bill.

Performance Dates: June 12-22, 2019

The New York Harlem Theatre present Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” as its last selection of the season.
