Daniela Barcellona Cancels ‘Cavalleria Rusticana’ In Torino

Daniela Barcellona has canceled her performances of Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” at the Teatro Regio di Torino.

The mezzo-soprano announced via social media that due to familial reasons she was forced to cancel. As a result, Sonia Ganassi will take over the role of Santuzza.

Ganassi is a recognized mezzo who has performed “Cavalleria Rusticana” at the Semperoper Dresden, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and Teatro Carlo Felice. She is set to take on the role at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

Ganassi joins a cast that includes Marco Berti and Marco Vratogna with Andrea Battistoni conducting a production by Gabriele Lavia. The second cast includes Cristina Melis, Francesco Anile, and Gëzim Myshketa. The opera will be performed alongside Casella’s “La Giara.”

The double bill opens on June 12 and runs through 22, 2019.
