Daniele Gatti Named Staatskapelle Dresden’s Chief Conductor

The Staatskapelle Dresden has named Daniele Gatti the new Chief Conductor.

The Saxon Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Barbara Klepsch and Daniele Gatti signed a corresponding contract in Dresden that will begin on August 1, 2024 and will last six years through July 31, 2030.

In a press statement, Klepsch added, “I am happy that after the vote by the orchestra for Daniele Gatti, we can now conclude the contract for the joint work at Semperoper Dresden, and we say warmly welcome to Dresden!”

Gatti has previously been chief conductor of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as well as Music Director of the Teatro dell’ Opera in Rome, and Chief Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, among others. He has conducted at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House in London, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and the Zurich Opera House.
