Daniel Barenboim Cancels Berlin State Opera Concerts

By Francisco Salazar

The Berlin State Opera has announced a conductor change for its Nov. 25 & 26 performances.

The company said, “Unfortunately, Daniel Barenboim had to cancel conducting the Abonnementkonzert tonight at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and tomorrow night at the Philharmonie Berlin for health reasons. As General Music Director, he played a key role in shaping the Staatskapelle for more than three decades, and together they gave more than 1,600 performances. We are delighted that the former conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin and proven Wagner specialist Philippe Jordan will be conducting the two concerts.”

The concerts will feature Richard Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde, Vorspiel and Liebestod” as well as the first act of “Die Walküre.” The soloists will include Andreas Schager, Anja Kampe, and René Pape.
