Damiano Michieletto is set to direct a production of “Der Rosenkavalier” at the Lithuanian National Opera this fall.

The production, which was initially scheduled for production in Spring of 2020 at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, will premiere on Sept. 3 and is programmed to run five performances until Sept. 11, 2021. The opera will then return in the Spring for three showcases on March 17, 18, and 19, 2022.

Strauss’ masterpiece will star Carmela Remigio, Eglė Šidlauskaitė, Albert Pesendorfer, and Lina Dambrauskaitè, among many others. Sesto Quatrini will conduct the production.

“In my interpretation of the opera I started from a phrase pronounced by the Marschallin: ‘Look for the snow from last year,’” said Michieletto in a press release. “A statement that has an influence on the show’s visual concept, dominated by a pure white that we would aspire to keep it as such. But it’s mainly a statement of nostalgia, for a time that has past, a beauty that has worn off, the love of Octavian that has been lost. The Feldmaschallin will be the spectator of the whole fantastic adventure, which is not without its fun and somewhat surreal moments.”

The opera will be presented as a co-production with La Monnaie and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.

Michieletto will be making his Lithuanian National Opera debut.
