Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Awarded Royal Honor

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has been given the Order of the Companion of Honour by the Prince of Wales on Dec. 20, 2019.

The soprano received the award alongside Heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, who received an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to sports.

Paul Zubier was also decorated with the George medal, which was given to him for his acts of bravery.

The superstar soprano, who hails from New Zealand, was one of the greatest Strauss and Mozart interpreters of her time and recorded over a dozen complete operas as well solo recital albums.

The soprano recently revealed that she was retiring from the stage but would continue her work with the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation as well as work with the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
