
Daegue Opera House Invited As Main Guest Theatre at 2025 Saaremaa Opera Festival
By David SalazarDaegu Opera House has been invited to serve as the main guest theatre for the 2025 Saaremaa Opera Festival in Estonia from July 22 – 27, 2025.
The production team of approximatley 140 members, including cast, orchestra, and chorus, will head to Estonia to present five showcases. First up is Isang Yun’s “Sim Tjong” on July 22. The opera is based on a Korean folktale.
Next up is Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice,” which gets a performance on July 23, 2025.
The company will then showcase a Korean Traditional Opera Gala on July 24, followed by a performance of “Madama Butterfly” on July 25. The festival closes with an opera gala concert.
“We are honored to be the main guest theatre at this important international festival. This is a great chance to share the beauty of Korean opera and traditional arts with audiences worldwide,” said Kabgun Chung, Intendant of the Daegu Opera House, per an official press release.
The Saaremaa Opera Festival features around 10,000 visitors annually. This year’s edition will be attended by tthe President of Estonia, representatives of the Embassy of Estonia in Korea, the Director General of Culture in Daegu, and the President of the Daegu Foundation for Culture & Arts.
