On November 6, 2021, the Curtis Opera Theatre presented the premiere of “MERCY,” a filmed reimagining of Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito.”

This new version, by co-writers and co-directors Chas Rader-Shieber and Alek Shrader, uses a re-orchestrated score and cinematography to create an innovative experience. Singers from the Curtis Opera Theatre were accompanied by a small ensemble of alumni and members of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, under the musical direction of Grant Loehnig and conducting fellow Robert Kahn.

The cast features Ethan Burck as Tito, Sophia Hunt as Vitellia, Anastasiia Sidorova as Sesto, Sarah Fleiss as Annio, Lindsey Reynolds as Servilia, and Thomas Petrushka as Publio.

The work was filmed by award-winning Neighborhood Film Company at Rittenhouse Filmworks and Rittenhouse Soundworks. Rehearsal and filming took place in March 2021. “Mercy” is available to watch on-demand until January 6, 2022, with a $6.99 ticket purchase granting access for 72 hours.
