Craig Colclough Highlights LA Opera on Now This Week

By Francisco Salazar

LA Opera on Now continues its weekly series with some new programming.

This week Craig Colclough performs a recital on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 4 p.m. PT. A frequent performer with LA Opera, the bass-baritone was set to sing the role of Figaro earlier this year and will return as Amonasro in “Aida.”

For this week’s recital, Colclough will sing arias by Verdi, Beethoven, and Wagner, along with songs by Cole Porter, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and more.

LA Opera will also encore an earlier episode of Shakespeare Sings. Soprano Katherine Powers dives into Verdi’s setting of “Macbeth,” with a special performance by Melissa Chalsma of the Independent Shakespeare Company.

The LA Opera is gearing up for its online production of “The Anonymous Lover” by Joseph Bologne, the first known Black classical composer, which is set to air on Nov. 14. Stay tuned for OperaWire’s review.
