Costa-Jackson Sisters, Wallis Giunta Among Major Highlights of Seattle Opera’s 2019-20 Season

The Seattle Opera is the first major opera company to announce its 2019-20 season, which will feature five operas and a special concert.

Productions

Verdi’s “Rigoletto” will open the season in August with a cast that features Lester Lynch and Giuseppe Altomare in the title role. Madison Leonard and Soraya Mafi take on Gilda while tenors Yongzhao Yu and Liparit Avetsyan alternate the Duke of Mantua.

Performance Dates: August 10,11, 14, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 28 (2019)

Ginger Costa-Jackson and Wallis Giunta will lead the cast of “La Cenerentola,” the latter making her Seattle Opera debut in the title role. As Don Ramiro, tenors Michele Angelini (another Seattle Opera debut) and Matthew Grills will alternate. Joo Won Kang and Jonathan Michie will appear as Dandini, while Peter Kalman, Miriam Costa-Jackson, Maya Gour will also appear in their respective Seattle Opera debuts. Adam Lau will play Alidoro and Gary Thor Wedow conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 19, 20, 23, 25, 26, 27, 30; Nov. 1 (2019)

Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” will be the company’s first opera in 2020 with a cast headlined by John Moore and Michael Adams as the titular character. Marjukka Tepponen and Marina Costa-Jackson will alternate Tatyana and Colin Ainsworth will portray Lenski. Aleksandar Markovic conducts in his Seattle Opera debut.

Performance Dates: Jan. 11, 12, 15, 18, 19, 22, 24, 25 (2020)

In February and March, “Charlie Parker’s Yardbird” makes its Seattle debut. Joshua Stewart and Frederick Ballentine will alternate the title role with Angela Brown, Jennifer Cross, Chrystal E. Williams, and Jorell Williams filling out the cast. Kelly Kuo conducts and Ron Daniels directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 22, 23, 26, 29; March 1, 4, 6, 7 (2020)

Finally, Joseph Colineri leads “La Bohème” with a cast that includes Jonathan Tetelman and Yosep Kang as Rodolfo and Angel Blue and Vanessa Vasquez as Mimì. Will Liverman and Adrian Timpau will star as Marcello while Ginger Costa-Jackson and Brandie Sutton rotate Musetta.

Performance Date: May 2, 3, 6, 8,9, 10, 13, 15, 16, 19 (2020)

Concerts

The company will also present “Three Singing Sisters,” a concert on Nov. 2, 2019 that stars the three Costa-Jackson sisters (Marina, Ginger, and Miriam) in action.
