Corinne Winters has canceled the Dec. 22, 2019 performance of Moniuszko’s “Halka” at the Theater an der Wien.

The soprano stated via social media, “Vienna friends: I’ve been hit badly with the norovirus stomach bug and must cancel my performance of ‘Halka’ tonight. Thank you for understanding and see you on the 29th for our next show!”

As a result, Polish soprano Ewa Vesin will sing the title role. Vesin is set to sing “Halka” in February 2020 in a production at the Polish National Opera. Vesin is a rising star who is set to perform the title role of “Turandot” at the Teatro dell’opera di Roma as well as “The Fiery Angel” at the Polish National Opera.

Vesin joins a cast that includes Piotr Beczala and Tomasz Konieczny. Łukasz Borowicz conducts the performance in Mariusz Treliński’s production.

Winters returns for the final two performances on Dec. 29 and Dec. 31, 2019.
