Congress Approves Initiative to Name Barcelona Train Station After Montserrat Caballé

By Francisco Salazar

The Deputies Congress has approved an initiative to change the name of the train station in Sants in Barcelona in order to add soprano Montserrat Caballé’s name.

The news was announced on April 12, the day of the legendary soprano’s birthday.

The initiative will now be passed on to the Ministry to approve the change.

Caballé was one of the most important Spanish singers of her generation who died in 2018 at the age of 85. She performed a wide variety of repertoire from Verdi, Puccini, Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti. She won three Grammy awards and performed all around the world at the Metropolitan Opera, Arena di Verona, Teatro alla Scala, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and San Francisco Opera, among others.
